Concept Note
The International seminar “Contemporary Geo-Environmental Issues in the Global South: Mapping, Resilience and Sustainable Solutions” aims to offer academicians, students, scholars and professionals a common space of dialogues on the current geo-environmental issues, particularly in the Global South for finding effective solutions in the long run. While the last few decades have been witnessing diverses geo-environmental matters at a local, regional and global scale, the policy landscape has also been shifted from the classical management approach to effective resilience strategies that earmark developing internal strengths and building a support network at the regional level to navigate challenges and setbacks for environmental issues affecting different regions. At the outset of critical dimensions of the current geo-environmental phenomenon, it is timely to examine how geography, environmental science and other relevant branches of applied science can come up to provide adaptive and sustainable policy prescriptions. And, parallelly, focusing on the Global South is appropriate because it comprises regions across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and parts of Oceania that face a disproportionately higher share of the world’s geo-environmental challenges and lower attention for sustainable solutions. From the escalating impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss to unplanned urbanization, overpopulation and socio-environmental inequalities the impact is manifold. Despite these challenges, the Global South is also a space of innovation, adaptation, and resilience, where communities, researchers, and policymakers are actively crafting sustainable solutions rooted in local knowledge and global cooperation. This international gathering of scholarly minds will seek cutting-edge research on climate resilience, livelihood sustainability, food security, environmental justice, and the role of indigenous and community-based knowledge systems. Through paper presentations, expert talks, and interactive discussions, the seminar aspires to map existing efforts and envision pathways for a sustainable and inclusive Global South. This seminar will serve as a platform to exchange ideas, showcase research, and inspire collaborative action toward environmental stewardship and social resilience.
